Create Brilliant Blog Post Titles to Attract and Engage Visitors

Create Your Working Title

It’s wonderful to write great content, but it’s also important to get it read and ranked.  That’s why making your title memorable is so key to having it found during searches.  Titles are what sell’s your content. Titles   represent your content in search engines, in email, and on social media.

Before you get into how to craft the perfect title, start with a rough draft which is your working title.  Many confuse topics and titles, though the difference is easily understood.

Blog Topics Cover Broad Subjects

Blog Topics are general and could yield several different blog posts.  Think “raising healthy kids,” or “kitchen storage.”  A writer might look at either of those topics and choose to take them in very, very different directions.

Blog Working Titles are About Specific Subjects

A working title, is very specific and guides the creation of a single blog post.  From the topic “raising healthy kids,” you could derive the following working titles:

  • “How the Right Nutrition Strengthens Your Kids’ Bones”
  • “A Parent’s Guide to Promoting Your Child’s Emotional Well-Being”
  • “Recipes for Healthy Dinners Your Teenagers Will Devour”

See how different and specific each of those is?  That’s what makes them working titles, instead of topics.  It’s worth noting that none of those titles are perfect, they should just be specific enough to guide your blog post.

Creating a Working Title Allows Many Possibilities

When I creating my blog post working title, it often helps me develop a unique approach for writing the post.  If I’m working on an idea for my Accessibility International blog, I may want to help my readers better understand the need for alternative text.

Most of my reader’s may have some grasp of what alternative text is.  However, the correct use of alternative text in the many different situations where it is appropriate and necessary are very diverse and sometimes difficult to understand.

Communicating alternative texts various uses in a cogent and correctly worded title is an important step for writing your blog post and telling what your reader’s need to know.

Tweak Your Title Before Publishing your Post

It’s important to keep in mind that this is just a working title.  After completing the post, I will revisit my title choice and tweak it.  The goal for a successful title is that it must evoke strong emotions in those reading it.  You want your title to grab their attention and make them click through to read your content
